FanSpeak

Saturday, Gene Colan memorial Room – Check schedule for exact times.

There are two of these general discussions occurring and the goal is to have fans getting a chance to have their say about these topical matters. There will be a host of creators joining in but we want your voices to carry the discussion. Check the schedule for time and location as well as some participants (although we expect many creators to drop in). Topics include the State of the Industry and the impact of Digital Comics.

Geek Fights

We are proud to have at the convention, Geek Fights, where there is intelligent discussion about inane topics. Join some of the hosts of the national podcast and participate in choosing the winners in a tournament style of debate, discussion, and hopefully limited diatribe. Various topics throughout the day so be sure to check them out at the front of the convention—join in and get your voice and vote heard.

Fantastic Raffle

Tickets drawn 15 minutes after each hour

Every hour on the .15 minutes past, there will be a raffle of items donated by creators and publishers. Tickets are cheap…2 for $1 and there will be multiple winners on each drawing. Your chance to get signed books, limited edition prints, discounts on original sketches, and more. Select items will be on display and winners choose their prize. Hosted by Chet Jacques.

Throughout the convention, host Chet Jacques (find him at the raffle area) will be presenting trivia questions and asking for volunteers to help him give out prizes.

Blood 4 Comics

Saturday, September 24 during show hours

Feel like the publishers are asking an arm and a leg for your favorite monthly book? At Detroit FanFare, all we want for these fabulous comics is your blood! Working with the American Red Cross Detroit Chapter, fans and collectors can donate blood and receive a hefty pile of free comics. Or if you are unable to give blood or just hate needles, you can still get these comic books for a monetary donation to the Red Cross. Bring an armful and take an armful away!

Detroit FanFare Film FanFest

Sunday, September 25 12pm-6pm
Gene Colan Memorial Room

Local film makers will show their stuff at this FanFest which will run all day on Sunday so you can see the incredible talent in the Detroit area. No admissions or reservations, just come in and enjoy all that these creators have to offer. As a Special Treat! Joe Doughrity will kick things off on Sunday with a look at his theatrical release, Corner Store. Joe, from the Detroit area, will discuss aspects of working in LA and Detroit and will provide insights to the creative and management sides of film making. Also, look for appearances by some of the people behind Evil Dead.

Silent Auction

Winning bids announced 4:00 Sunday

A chance to own valuable and unique art pieces from the talented creators attending the show. This will be set up as a silent auction and items will be on display during the show with the winning bids announced at 4:00 on Sunday (Main Stage). In addition to original art and signed prints, there will likely be other merchandise in the auction.

Detroit FanFare Costume Contests

Prizes awarded! Expect to have some celebrity judges! And fans, keep those costumes as the Convention Party will be on Saturday night and the first 500 costumers coming in will receive a FREE variant comic (Carnage from 2010).For the Kid’s Costume Contest on Sunday at noon, kids will be excited to stick around afterwards as Rachel Kaiser and John Martin will give instructions on how to draw favorite characters. And remember, kids are FREE admittance on Sunday.

Cosplay Photo Ops

Throughout the convention.

Cosplayers! We have provided great opportunities to join with others as there will be a number of photo op stations on the convention floor where cosplayers can meet and have the opportunity to take great photos without being bumped or cut off by fans walking by. And at the end of the day on Saturday,at the Main Stage, all cosplayers are invited to join together prior to the costume contest to have a massive cosplayer photo op. (5:30 Saturday at the Main Stage)

Official Convention Party

Saturday, September 24 10:00 pm -2:00 am
Marriott Hotel at the Renaissance Center

Everyone is invited! The convention party will take place at the Marriott hotel (the official convention hotel) and will bring creators, fans, vendors, and everyone else together for a celebration. Don’t forget the Shots 4 Sketches will be in full force and the first 500 people in costume will receive 2010’s special variant of Carnage #1.

Amateur ART CONTEST

On display all day Saturday until winners announced on Sunday at 3:00
Sponsored by Blue Line Pro.

Accepting entries at the convention during show hours only, and announcing the winners on Sunday at 3:00 pm. The Categories for our Art Contest are: ages 12 and under, 13- 17, and 18+. Each age group is divided into color and black & White. The Contest will be judged by some of our creators at the show. and prizes are being donated by BLUE LINE PRO. (Original art please. No prints and no professionals). For drawing tips–Mark Crilley, Rachel Kaiser and John Martin will give instructions on how to draw favorite characters. Check the panel schedule for times and location.

Shots 4 Sketches

During the Official Convention Party
Saturday, September 24. From 10pm-2am

Ever wanted to see how your favorite Detroit FanFare artist draws your favorite character? Or, wondered what that same artist’s favorite drink is? Have you ever wanted to see how your favorite artist at Detroit FanFare draws your favorite character after several of their favorite drinks? During the party on Saturday, many of the artists will be set up to draw sketches and will accept drinks for doing so. A portion of the proceeds will be going to a creditable charity. Not all artists may NOT take part in this event.

SUNDAY IS KIDS DAY!

Free admission for all kids 12 and under.

And be sure to check out Rachel Kaiser at 1:00 who will show the secrets in drawing Disney characters, learned from her experience at Disney World teaching audiences. John Martin, artist of Vordak and Summer Vacation, will also lead a drawing session at 2:00.
